Word from the Headteacher

A warm welcome to our website and to our school. I am really pleased that you are interested in what we do here at Hunsley Primary. We are very proud of the children and our school community, and we all love to share what we are up to.

Hunsley Primary offers an exciting, inclusive and rewarding primary experience to each of our pupils; and in every case, we aim to make sure what we teach our children is relevant to their needs, reflects their context and is designed to enable everyone to meet their full potential.

Our pupils study the full range of curriculum subjects and there are plenty of opportunities for creativity, pupil leadership and physical activity. Through our curriculum, children learn what is means to think like a mathematician, a historian or a scientist, and how really mastering a subject requires specific knowledge, skills and understanding built and strengthened over time.

Our pupils develop the skills and attributes required to succeed in life through discussion, creative thinking and problem-solving. We also focus on how to be caring, respectful and team-spirited – such important aspects of our school values and ethos. Being part of Hunsley Primary encourages, stimulates and challenges our pupils, better preparing them for life in a rapidly-developing world, whilst also making sure they have a really enjoyable and enriching primary experience.

We are lucky to have our home in a fantastic growing community on Bluebird Way – a name that seems rather apt for our ‘Hunsley blue’ school! The building offers a superb home for learning and a great base to explore the wider world around us. Our neighbours at Primrose House, Aldi, Barratt and David Wilson Homes on the developing Brough South estate have all helped the children to reach out and make connections with the local community. Our aim is to become a central hub for this growing development.

We are grateful to our friends at South Hunsley for their hospitality and support when we first opened as a Free School on their site in 2015, and we are pleased to keep such strong ties with our partner schools in the multi academy trust, The Education Alliance (TEAL). Working as a team helps us all to thrive, which is something Hunsley Primary children know well. We are also partners in the Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training group (YWTT), based in Melton, and work very closely with the schools involved in TEAL, creating an exciting environment for professional development and educational research that keeps us focused on the very best provision for the children in our care.

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website. Perhaps you are thinking about applying for a school place or a staff role in our school. One of our school’s strengths is its teamwork, coming from an enthusiastic group all working together towards the same aims. There are also so many benefits to working as part of a TEAL school – to find out more, why not visit The Education Alliance website: LINK
