In 2011-2012, the Government introduced the Pupil Premium, which is an additional financial allocation, further to the main school funding. The Pupil Premium is intended to address current underlying national inequalities between children who are or who have been eligible for Free School Meals (FSM and Ever6), Looked After Children (LAC), children whose parents are in the armed forces and their peers by ensuring that there is dedicated funding allocated to their school in order to reduce any disadvantages that these pupils may have.
The trust is a national Pupil Premium Award winner (2014), having been recognised by the Department for Education for its highly effective designation of funding and the significant impact it has had on pupils’ lives.
The Pupil Premium funding is used to fund the programme of interventions planned by school leaders and classroom staff with the specific focus on narrowing gaps in progress and attainment for disadvantaged pupils and, where necessary, identify specific needs and provide a holistic approach to meeting those needs of each of these pupils. The School’s aim for all pupils eligible for Pupil Premium Grant is that they perform better than non-pupil premium pupils nationally. All school leaders, teachers and associate staff work closely and collaboratively to champion the needs of Pupil Premium children, placing them at the heart of provision at all levels, from Wave 1 quality first teaching in the planning of learning to the specific interventions operating throughout the school week.
The principles underpinning the targeted use of Pupil Premium Grant funding are as follows:

As such, we have a nominated Disadvantaged Champion in Head of Hunsley Primary, Mrs Lucy Hudson, and have nominated our Safeguarding Governor, Mrs Karen Dow, as the Governor Champion, to make sure children who find themselves disadvantaged will always have an advocate in school, ensuring the highest standards are met. It is the role of the Disadvantage Champion to monitor and promote the raising of attainment and the acceleration of progress of disadvantaged pupils throughout the school or setting by raising the profile of this group and actively monitoring, evaluating and improving the provision for these pupils.
