Hunsley Primary Newsletter – 11 May 2026

Welcome to the latest Newsletter. I hope that you had a lovely weekend and that you are well.

There are so many things happening in school at the moment, that I might not capture them all in this Newsletter, but I want to share with you the headlines about activities the children are up to and how well they are doing. We have a rich ‘co-curriculum’ running alongside the academic teaching and learning. I hope that you are managing to keep an eye on the Events Calendar and What’s On section below, to help with mapping out what the children are up to in your own calendars.

Last week, we had the exciting Spring creative Eggcellent Eggshibition for Year 2, who were very keen to get going with their creative activity. Thank you to everyone who attended – what fantastic parent/carer involvement! The children’s models were great: from space-age eggs, to fantasy eggs; sporting eggs, to scientific eggs! They represented the children’s diverse interests and passions.

We also held another Stay and Play session last week in the Hall and it was lovely to see our new families again. Our Stay and Plays give opportunities for families to pop in with their children for a cup of tea or coffee, something to eat and a sit-down in a relaxed setting. With time for a parent-to-parent chat and a chance to play, read stories and have fun with your children at the end of the school day, we really hope that it’s a welcoming drop-in space, enabling you to socialise and spend time together.

The Year 4 and 5 choir members knocked our socks off on Friday in assembly, sharing their performance of songs from the musicals fresh from their recent show at South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College. The children were performing alongside their peers from other local cluster partnership primaries, and the theme this time was The Greatest Showman. The quality of performances across the evening was fantastic, and our choir team did us proud! It was great to watch them once again and to share their songs with their friends. Thank you to Ms Boyes, Miss Ashbridge and Miss Liney for supporting the children in their choir performances and a big well done to the children for being excellent ambassadors for the school.

On Friday, we celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with a thought-provoking assembly from our Eco-Team – brilliant! – and a live Zoom assembly in the afternoon from Steve Backshall. The children enjoyed a day of nature, sustainable thinking and outdoor fun. What a fantastic way to celebrate a national icon and to launch our newly-decorated Bluebird Boat garden.

Finally, our super Y6s have their SATS this week – I want to take this opportunity to wish them all the very best of luck with their assessments and to tell them that we are all really proud of them. As they step into the final half term of their time at Hunsley Primary, I want them all to know that they have been an absolute pleasure to teach and look after and we are excited to help them on the next step of their journey. Well done, Y6!

Wishing you all a good week ahead. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Yours sincerely,

Lucy Hudson

Headteacher
