Hunsley Primary Newsletter – 12 September 2026
A warm welcome to the first Newsletter of the year!
We have had such a super week, welcoming the children back to school and meeting our new starters, beginning their journey with us. I especially enjoyed my time in Reception last week and look forward to teaching the EYFS children each Friday. We are also happy to welcome a new member of the team, Kate Spavold, who joins us as a full-time TA.
Thank you to our families for being brilliant in your support of our routines and systems. We have included some of the essentials in the Newsletter below, so that you can click on the information you need. Great attendance is the first and foremost aspect of school achievement, so we will always ask for families to aim for the best possible attendance for their child – more below about this.
A little information about the staff team leaders and their responsibilities:
- This year, Julie Boyes takes on the full role of SENCO, helped by the team of teachers and TAs to offer inclusive, adaptive teaching and bespoke provision for additional areas of need; Julie continues as our Designated Safeguarding Lead and Wellbeing Lead, supported by Amelia Clark as her designated deputy
- Rachel Cheeseman is leading on pupil and family engagement, Early Years, and transition in Reception and Key Stage 1, supporting our children to remove barriers to achievement through inclusion;
- Billy Sloan leads on Maths, computing and KS2/3 transition support, and this year is organising our Pupil Leadership Team – a newly-developed team of children to liaise with the four ‘committees’ we have already (Wellbeing Ambassadors; Eco-Team; Reading Ambassadors and Activity Leaders)
- Kirsty Wicks is our English Lead, responsible for all aspects of English including phonics and early reading, and the work we are doing as a Trust school on Talk for Writing, as well as our work with the English Hub.
- Lauren Gale continues as our PE and Sports Lead, responsible for running extra-curricular engagement in sports and for leading the Activity Leaders, who are fantastic playground role models
The Hunsley team members all work together to ensure that inclusion and engagement are on the top of everyone’s list. My role is to lead across each of these school development aspects. I oversee our wider teaching and associate team, working closely with children, families, Governors and partners in our Trust and community, listening and responding, making sure that we offer the best we can for your child’s care and education. We are so pleased that you have chosen Hunsley Primary for your child’s school journey, and we look forward to the year ahead.
