Hunsley Primary Newsletter – 18 September 2026
Thank you for your continued support which is really helping the children make a great start to term. The weather is holding up, with some lovely sunny playtimes, but as we see a bit of an autumnal change, please don’t forget to send your child with a light, waterproof jacket, so they can play out in comfort and get involved with the resources we have in our outdoor areas. The Trim Trail is ever closer, too; we really look forward to seeing the children enjoying it.
Whole school attendance has been positive this week, and we are aiming to work altogether to meet our ambitious attendance goals as we proceed through the year; so please continue to help your child to keep up the great job, because we are proud of the way the children attend school and like to celebrate their continued efforts.
Why not ask your child this weekend about our new Assembly song, I’m Gonna Be Your Friend 😊 They have been learning this Sing-Up song as a whole school anthem for the half term, and we love hearing them sing the positive chorus! Reception already have some cool moves that go with it!
A reminder that Home Learning is starting again this week, so please do make sure you have a look with your child to check you can access Google Classroom for the details of homework set by teachers. We can help if you are having any trouble logging on. You might recall from our summer ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions that in KS1 and 2 we are sending home CGP revision books for maths and English homework. Your child’s teacher will set the activity on Google Classroom for your child to complete in their CGP book. This new approach follows the trial of CGP books Mr Sloan and his Year 6 children carried out last year. The CGP books had really positive feedback from children and parents, so we hope you and your child like this approach too! Early Years will have a slightly different approach, and Miss Clark and Mrs Cheeseman will keep parents and carers posted.
Don’t forget this year is the National Year of Reading, and the children need to read regularly throughout the week if they really want to improve as readers and grow great skills for the future. Children should be recording their reading at least three times a week in the Journal. Your child’s teacher can confirm how they would like the reading to be recorded, whether the child can do this themselves or whether parents and carers should log it, depending on age. And please don’t forget: the children earn stickers, points and rewards for recording their reading on the Reading Ladder in their Journals, so we look forward to seeing their progress and to giving out prizes again.
Our Parent /Carer survey link went out this week, and we will be starting our Feedback in Action section of the Newsletter again soon, to share some of the outcomes of suggestions or to answer whole school questions raised. We hope this helps! There is a question on the survey this time about clubs, and we would love to collect your ideas. If you did not have a chance to complete the survey, the link is included below too.
