Welcome back after what I hope has been a lovely holiday, for the children and you all. I hope, too, that you have been able to spend some more time together as a family this week – we know time is precious when you are working and fitting everything into the half term week.
This is one of the busiest times of the year ahead, and we start with the Parents’ Events next week on Tuesday 10 November (virtual) and Thursday 12 November (in-person). We are looking forward to everyone joining us. Please can I urge you all to make every effort to attend one of the available appointments to speak with your child’s teacher. It would be great to see 100% of the children represented this time as we know how important these opportunities are for supporting the children to achieve their best. If you are having difficulty accessing the appointments, please just ask.
I want to thank you for your efforts in helping the children to attend school fully. We have had a recent decrease in the number of term time holidays taken which means that more children are attending as fully as possible and can access the provision in place.
A further thank you to families who attended the Parent-Learn in the last week of the half term – this session focused on maths and ways families can support children to progress at home, too. We had some great feedback on the games, ideas and activities offered. Mr Sloan will be putting the games on our website, and we will let you know how you can access those soon.
We also have a half term of developing pupil leadership coming up, with some really exciting opportunities: Year 6 have a TEAL Character Day at Pocklington this Tuesday where they will be taking part in some exciting team-building activities including a session with Joe Fishburn – former Team GB gymnast and 2025 Gladiators champion, delivering his inspirational “Adversity is My Superpower” assembly and workshop. The following week, six intrepid Key Stage 2 pupil leaders will represent the school at the TEAL Development Centre, to take part in our annual trust Pupil Leadership Summit and learn more about democracy. Then, we also have a very exciting activity lined up for Year 5 and 6 – they will be taking part in a virtual question and answer session on Monday 9 November with a member of the House of Lords. We cannot wait to see the children’s questions being answered.
Friday 13 November is our first House Team Development Day of the year, and our focus of the day’s learning is going to be friendship and play. It is also a non-uniform day (Children in Need Day) – the children are invited to come in their comfy clothes and to bring a colourful item for their class Colour Hamper. And Monday 16 November marks the start of Anti-Bullying Week and Road Safety Week. It is also Odd Socks Day, so please do encourage your child to come in odd socks on Monday 16 to mark the start of a very important week in schools across the country!
Finally, as we approach Diwali, we would like to send our Hindu families and friends the very best of wishes for this special time of the year – Happy Diwali!
Yours sincerely,
Lucy Hudson
